Choosing a Playground Surface
When we’re selecting materials for your playground project, we’ll consider how we can best balance safety, longevity, and usability. We’ll also focus on how we can suit the specific needs of your schools, nursery, or community play space.
Here’s an overview of the playground surfacing options we regularly specify and install:
Soft Tarmac for Playgrounds
Where impact protection matters most, our soft tarmac for playgrounds options add an extra layer of safety. We combine a sturdy tarmac base with rubber crumb or engineered wet-pour finishes to create a seamless surface that softens impacts. This surfacing is perfect for under-equipment zones, toddler areas, and sensory spaces.
Resin-bound Gravel
A permeable, textured finish that looks attractive and performs well for sensory spaces, pathways, and informal play areas. New constructions, including playgrounds, need to adhere to SuDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems), and resin-bound areas offer a compliant solution.
Bonded Mulch and Engineered Soft-Fill
This cost-effective soft-fall material reduces the force of falls, is easy to maintain, and keeps play areas usable year-round. We’ll recommend the right system to meet your fall-height requirements and accessibility needs.
Line Marking and Colour Coating
